'Elder Scrolls VI' Release Date, Trailer and Location for the Next-Gen Game

Everything we know so far.

Bethesda Softworks

Exactly one year ago, Bethesda Softworks director Todd Howard took the stage at E3 2018 and said the three words that video game fans had been anticipating for years: Elder. Scrolls. Six. A year later, Bethesda is coming back to the Electronic Entertainment Expo, but we’re not expecting any updates on Elder Scrolls VI, which is likely still at least a few years away.

With that in mind, here’s everything we do know about Elder Scrolls VI (along with plenty of informed speculation), from the potential release date to where it takes place on the continent of Tamriel where the Elder Scrolls games take place.

What Is the Elder Scrolls VI Release Date?

Short answer: We have no idea. Long answer: Actually, maybe we do.

Bethesda hasn’t officially announced an Elder Scrolls VI release date, though he has admitted to personally know when the game will come out. “I do,” Howard told GameSpot last year when asked if there was a set launch date. “I would be foolish to say it.”

We’re also pretty sure that ES6 will launch on the next generation of consoles. That means it won’t come out until next fall at the soonest when the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett launch. Then again, even that may be optimistic. In a recent interview, Howard said that before Elder Scrolls VI the company first plans to release Starfield, a long-planned video game set in outer space. So don’t expect the new Elder Scrolls for a good long while.

What Consoles Will Elder Scrolls VI Launch On?

You can probably expect the game to arrive simultaneously on PS5, Xbox Scarlett, and Microsoft Windows. As for Nintendo Switch, the portable console may support Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but that was a port late in the game’s lifecycle so you probably shouldn’t expect ES6 to hit the Switch anytime soon.

Will Elder Scrolls VI Be Single Player or Online?

Bethesda turned the typically single-player Fallout series into an online-only experience with Fallout 76, but if you’re worried the same thing could happen to Elder Scrolls you can rest easy. The company has already confirmed this will be a classic, offline single-player game.

In a June 2018 interview, Bethesda marketing chief Pete Hines said, “We are going to do a game that’s just single-player next time around, and, yes, we are going to get to Elder Scrolls VI.”

Is There an Elder Scrolls VI Trailer?

Not really, but Bethesda did release a short announcement teaser with just enough detail to spark fans’ imaginations. Watch the teaser trailer below.

What Location in Tamriel Is Elder Scrolls VI Set?

We don’t know, but we do have a few theories. Here are three worth checking out:
