Keri Russell 'Star Wars' Character: Zorri Bliss 'Episode 9' Photos Revealed
Meet your new favorite cosplay, as played by the star of 'The Americans.'
No one wants to say it out loud, but the best characters in Star Wars are the ones with cool costumes. No one wants to admit it, except The Americans star Keri Russell, who bragged about her character, Zorri Bliss, and their costume in a new reveal for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
Amid a Wednesday morning info dump from Vanity Fair, Russell kept a tight lip to the magazine about her Star Wars anti-hero, Zorri Bliss. “I do have the coolest costume,” she told the magazine. “I will say that.”
But who is Zorri Bliss? There’s little information about the character revealed in Vanity Fair’s big cover story. The magazine reports that Zorri serves a similar role to Benicio Del Toro’s DJ from The Last Jedi. Like DJ, Zorri Bliss isn’t choosing the Light or Dark side; they’re simply playing the game in whatever way benefits them the most.
It’s safe to say, if you’re wearing a mask in Star Wars, there’s a chance you’re not a benevolent soul with a conscience.
But what a mask Zorri’s got! Set to debut in The Rise of Skywalker, which hits theaters this December, Zorri Bliss looks like a mix of Boba/Jango Fett and Zam Wesell, the shape-shifting assassin from Attack of the Clones. There’s other elements to her costume — gold and brass plates over a form-fitting black layer — that echoes Daft Punk, the Rocketeer, and (hands up if you’re a ‘90s kid) the Gold Ranger from Power Rangers Zeo.
Based on the new photos, audiences will meet Zorri on Kijimi, a snow planet where the Thieves’ Quarter is located. It’s exactly the kind of place one would find a character like Zorri Bliss.
For The Rise of Skywalker, Russell reunites with director J.J. Abrams for the first time since she starred in the television series Felicity, about a college undergrad who abandons Stanford to chase her crush to New York City. She’s also in the film with Adam Driver, with whom she currently stars in the Broadway play Burn This.
In a 2018 interview with Deadline, after production of The Rise of Skywalker had commenced, Russell said of working with Abrams again: “It is just so much more fun to work with someone that you like so much.”
She added: “I mean, we see each other and then we talk nonstop and fill in all the details of the past years, and you know, it’s just nice when you have that kind of fun and history with someone. It makes it all that much more enjoyable. When J.J. calls so unexpectedly, cool things happen.”
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters on December 20.
