'Avengers: Endgame' Spoilers: Theory Says Quantum Suits Have a Surprise Use

The second Avengers: Endgame trailer officially showcased the team’s spiffy new white suits for the first time, though they’re likely not just there for aesthetics. Many fans have speculated that the suits are designed specifically for traveling through the Quantum Realm and shrinking, a la Ant-Man. Now, an exciting new theory suggests that the Quantum Realm suits have another unexpected feature.

Redditor u/TheWakandanKING put forward a theory indicating that the Quantum Realm suits are actually made of Iron Man’s nanotech technology. This means that the suits can alter their exterior, morphing into any piece of clothing from the past, so the Avengers can time travel without sticking out like sore thumbs. For example, in old set photos, Tony Stark is spotted in the same outfit he was wearing in The Avengers while Steve Rogers is sporting the original Captain America cowl.

The theory also goes on to claim that the nano technology is the reason why the actors were wearing tracking markers on their clothing, so that CGI could be added in during the editing process.

“The suits would be transforming into those with nanotech, allowing for the heroes to blend into respective time periods,” the theory explains.

That makes a lot of sense because, while the white suits look fantastic, they’re also bound to draw attention to the Avengers and that’s exactly what they would want to avoid for fear of irreparably altering the past.

This theory helps to explain why the Avengers are only seen wearing the Quantum Realm suits as they walk through the hangar in the trailer. If the suits transform as soon as they arrive to a specific time period, then they’ll only be visible while inside the Quantum Realm. For obvious reasons, we haven’t actually seen the Quantum Realm in any Endgame footage because Marvel is averse to spoilers.

Since there’s so much ground to cover (the movie is apparently three hours long), Endgame will realistically want to limit the time spent inside the Quantum Realm, anyway. We assume there might be a scene of suspense as the Avengers are getting used to their new environment and how to use it, but the really interesting aspects of the film will likely happen outside of it.

Though the surviving Avengers are wearing the white suits during their walk through the hangar, it begs the question of whether they’ll all be time traveling together. A toy leak seemed to indicate that Black Widow, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Nebula and Ant-Man will be making up the time-traveling team. However, it could very well be that War Machine and Captain America will be joining them, too.

Nanotech technology, Quantum Realm suits, and time travel can only mean one thing: It’s time to put our thinking caps on in preparation for all the science-y explanations this movie will have to pack in.

Avengers: Endgame hits theaters April 26, 2019.
