'Fortnite' Season 8 Map Changes: Volcano, Cannons, Lava, Vents, and More

How to find them all.

Fortnite: Battle Royale revealed some major map changes for Season 8, reshaping the island yet again with new locations and features, including volcanoes, geyser vents, lava, pirate cannons, and more. Here’s all the major Fortnite Season 8 map changes so far.

There’s a volcano!

Thanks to the earthquakes that rocked Fortnite at the end of Season 7, there’s now a giant volcano in the top-right corner of the map. The entire volcano is a giant hot air vent, and flying directly into it will send you back up into the air. You can also land on the volcano and head inside, where you’ll find a giant lava-filled throne room.

Speaking of lava, that’s another new feature on the Fortnite Season 8 map. Jumping on the lava will deal one damage each time you touch it, which isn’t a huge deterrent. On the plus side, jumping across the lava will give you a pretty big bounce, though it’s more lateral than vertical.

Volcano vents!

The volcano is sure to be a deathtrap right now as everyone heads there to check out Fortnite Season 8’s most dramatic map change, however, you can get a similar experience all over the island.

The vents are clearly recognizable from close up, since they’re constantly shooting out hot air. Running over one will send you flying upwards, letting you redeploy your glider. So it’s perfect for making a quick escape or traversing the map.

Pirate cannons!

Probably the coolest feature in Fortnite Season 8 are the new cannons you can find on the map. These serve two purposes: you can shoot cannonballs at enemies (100 damage for direct hits, 50 damage for indirect), or you can shoot yourself. The second option sends you flying across the map before crashing into wherever you land. You can’t control yourself once you fire the cannon, so aim carefully.

At the moment, it seems like the best place to find cannons is Lazy Lagoon, a new pirate-themed area that features a giant pirate ship and a small village. However, there’s also some “pirate outposts” across the map that might feature cannons as well. So keep your eyes peeled.

Lazy Lagoon and Sunny Steps

For the moment, these seem to be the only new named locations. Lazy Lagoon, as we previously mentioned, is a pirate-themed area with a big pirate ship. On that same theme, there’s also plenty of treasure.

The other new location is Sunny Steps, an Aztec-themed area near the volcano with Legends of the Hidden Temple vibes. There’s a big pyramid you can check out and a few smaller structures, but it’s not too exciting at the moment.

That’s it for now, but stay tuned for plenty more Fortnite Season 8 coverage and watch us play live right now on Twitch.
