'American Horror Story' Season 8 Spoilers: Why Episode 6 Is a Huge Deal
This crossover episode promises to be a standout for more than one reason.
In case American Horror Story fans weren’t already excited enough about the Murder House crossover episode of Apocalypse, now they have something else to look forward to. Season 8 Episode 6 of AHS: Apocalypse is already different from the previous episodes of the season in one particularly exciting way.
In “Return to Murder House,” Madison Montgomery — played by Emma Roberts — will be sent back to the haunted house from AHS Season 1 to get intel on Michael Langdon, who was born inside the house, The Hollywood Reporter reports. The warlock Behold (Billy Porter) is going with her, and a promo for the episode makes it seem like they’re going to run into at least one familiar face while they’re there: Jessica Lange’s Constance Langdon.
An episode featuring Lange, who left American Horror Story after Season 4, already had the potential to be something special. But there’s another big reason this episode will be a standout compared to the first five episodes of the season: it’s going to be extra long.
ComicBook.com reports that “Return to Murder House” will be 1 hour and 18 minutes long, resulting in a 55-minute episode runtime. That’s compared to a usual episode runtime of 40 to 42 minutes. All that extra time means a whole lot can happen, and based on the crossover aspect alone, the writers probably needed it.
Most AHS viewers would probably be fine if the entire sixth episode of the season was devoted to Lange doing whatever she wants to do for 55 minutes. But she’s not the only Murder House character making a comeback on Apocalypse, and all the returning faces may also be behind the super-sized runtime of the episode.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that the whole Harmon family will be back for cameo appearances in “Return to Murder House,” and this will be the first time Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott will return to AHS since Seasons One and Two, respectively. Evan Peters is set to return to his role as Tate, and Taissa Farmiga will likely switch gears and become Violet again.
There are sure to be more surprise appearances on Season 8, Episode 6 of American Horror Story: Apocalypse, and we can see why showrunners wouldn’t want to rush things with an average runtime if they could help it. Whatever other surprises may be in store will only be revealed if fans catch the episode on FX.
