'Avengers 4' Spoilers: Wong Could Have an Eerie 'Captain Marvel' Connection

One master of the mystic arts has seemingly survived Thanos’ devastating Snap at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, but a new set photo on social media could indicate a huge reveal for the character. Could Wong have been a Skrull all along? And what does that mean for Captain Marvel and Avengers 4? Here’s what you need to know.

Actor Benedict Wong, who played the magical Wong in Doctor Strange and Avengers: Infinity War, posted a photo to Instagram from the set of Avengers 4 this past weekend. “Happy to be filming @avengers 4,” the caption reads. “But the cleaning of spoilers is a bit much.”

So he must’ve survived the end of Infinity War, unless these scenes take place after everyone might get resurrected?

In Wong’s Instagram photo, makeup artists peel back huge flaps of fake skin and hair from the back of Wong’s head, indicating that Marvel Studios probably made an entire replica mask of his face — or large portions of his face.

Fans quickly wondered whether Wong might actually be a Skrull, the alien race slated to debut in Captain Marvel that’s capable of shapeshifting to impersonate other humanoids.

Is the spoiler here that Wong has, in fact, been a Skrull all along? Or will the Skrulls make a comeback in Avengers 4 by impersonating Wong (and potentially other heroes) for a short period of time? Then again, maybe Wong just faces Thanos and the Mad Titan uses the Reality Stone to transform the wizard’s head to into strips of skin?

No matter what the explanation might be, it’s definitely possible that Wong could have connections to Captain Marvel and the Skrulls, but we’ll have to wait and find out.

Captain Marvel will be released in theaters on March 8, 2019 and Avengers 4 will be released on May 3, 2019.
