'Marvel Rising' Trailer: Captain Marvel Unites Young Heroes in the New Film

Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, and “Miss America” America Chavez aren’t as big as the Avengers. Now. But with a helping hand from Carol Danvers, AKA Captain Marvel, they’ll be ready for the big leagues in no time.

On Wednesday, Marvel and ABC released the first trailer for Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, a new animated Marvel film separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, set to air September 30 on Disney Channel and Disney XD.

The film, which borrows its name from a different Marvel team (overseen by Nick Fury in the comics) primarily spotlights younger and/or more “unknown” superheroes in their own animated crossover.

Sure, you may have heard of characters like Ms. Marvel (Kathreen Khavari), Squirrel Girl (Milana Vayntrub), or even Daisy Johnson (voiced by her Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. actress Chloe Bennett). But Inferno and Patriot? Probably not. This makes Marvel Rising a cool introduction, especially for younger fans who can’t just bulk order trade paperbacks on their own.

Admittedly, I’m not a fan of the animation style of Marvel Rising. Something about it seems a little, well, off. But the mere fact it’s got Ms. Marvel, Spider-Gwen (sorry, “Ghost-Spider”), and Miss America all in the same adventure is enough to encourage a curious glance.

Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors premieres September 30 on Disney Channel and Disney XD.
