The latest update also adds an exciting new game mode.

Perhaps to celebrate the release of Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4, Fortnite: Battle Royale is giving players a way to swing around the map with its just-released update 5.40. The latest version of Fortnite adds a new Grappling Gun weapon, along with a new Getaway limited-time mode, and various other tweaks.

Here’s everything you need to know about Fortnite Update 5.40, starting with that Grappling Gun.

Fortnite Update 5.40: Grappling Gun

The Grappling Gun is an epic rarity item, meaning your chances of finding one in the wild are pretty low. On the plus side, you can find the Grappling Gun in a variety of different ways, including treasure chests, supply drops, supply llamas, vending machines, and floor loot.

Once you get your hands on a Grappling Gun, you can shoot it at any nearby object to quickly pull yourself towards it. You can also chain those shots together to move across the map at rapid speeds, similar to Spider-Man swinging through New York.

Just be sure to aim your shots carefully. You only get 15 charges before running out of ammo, and there’s no way to reload.

Fortnite Update 5.40: Getaway LTM and More

Fortnite’s latest mode puts an interesting new twist on the game. Getaway LTM has you and your team drop down onto the island and track down one of four safes with large jewels inside them. Once you grab a jewel, you’ll need to survive long enough to get to a van and escape. The first four teams to do just that win.

Playing Getaway will unlock in-game cosmetic items. That includes a special crowbar pickaxe, a cash flow contrail, a new suited up spray, and 5,000 XP.

Beyond that, Update 5.40 also fixes a variety of smaller bugs across the game, including camera jitter, weapon issues, and a problem with the Nintendo Switch version.
