'Fortnite' P90: Epic Games Nerfs Compact SMG After Players' Complaints
Any gamer familiar with the P90 weapon in other shooters knows that it’s regularly one of the best weapons in a game. As expected, when it released on Tuesday as part of the Fortnite v5.1 update, the gun was overpowered, and Epic Games had to step in to do something about it.
The Compact SMG, or the P90, came out on Tuesday as part of the latest Fortnite update. It mowed down players and tore down any structures built. People complained about the weapon on the official Fortnite forums, the Fortnite subreddit, and all over social media. Due to its destructive force, Epic intervened on Wednesday with a quick update to all SMGs in the game, especially the P90.
An Epic representative posted on the Fortnite subreddit a list of changes to all SMGs and the Compact SMG:
SMG and Compact SMG accuracy bonus reduced from 35% to 15%.
SMG damage reduced from 19/20/21 to 17/18/19.
Compact SMG damage reduced from 23/24 to 21/22.
SMG fire rate reduced from 13 to 12.
Compact SMG fire rate reduced from 11 to 10.
SMG, Compact SMG, and Silenced SMG damage falloff.
Range reduced from 2400/3500/5000 to 2000/3000/4000.
Percentage reduced from 100/80/65% to 100/70/40%.
Rare SMG and Compact SMGs drop rates slightly reduced.
What may have convinced Epic to nerf the P90 was a video posted by Reddit user Ryandos on the Fortnite subreddit. The video shows a side-by-side comparison of the Compact SMG versus the Power Stone used by Thanos during the Infinity War Limited Time Mode. Thanos simply can’t hang with the Compact SMG.
Players on the subreddit appreciated the changes Epic made to the weapon, but there were a few sad the overpowered gun was nerfed.
If Fortnite players worry about powerful guns, then next week may not be a good time to play as data miners discovered a new weapon called the Heavy Sniper Rifle. A gun with so much power it will shoot through walls.
