'Avengers 4' Spoilers: New Theory Has Time-Travel and Alternate Dimensions

Two of the most popular theories about how Avengers 4 concludes the story of Infinity War involve either time travel or alternate dimensions. Now, a new theory purported as a “plot leak” on Reddit brings together both in a way that would make for a totally wild and insane finale.

Consider this your “spoiler” warning in the off chance that this plot leak is genuine in some fashion.

A new Reddit account with the not at all suspicious username “abigfriend” posted to the Marvel Studios Spoilers subreddit late Monday night with a lengthy list of plot points supposedly leaked from their “connections” at Marvel Studios.

The plot integrates time travel — which is all but proven by various set photos — with a wacky theory positing that Thanos’ snap created a parallel dimension rather than actually killing half the universe.

“[Avengers 4] is about traveling through time using the Quantum Realm to collect the stones,” the post reads. “Those who were dusted at the end of [Infinity War] are not dead — they were transferred to an alternate reality within the [Soul] stone.” The general plot sends the “OG Avengers” through time to fill up their own Infinity Gauntlet, with Thanos using his own to follow them.

Steve Rogers and Black Widow supposedly have more prominent roles in 'Avengers 4'.

What’s truly crazy is that this sort of makes sense given previous evidence and plenty of other rumors swirling around.

At the end of Infinity War, Thanos does see a vision of Gamora’s younger self inside the Soul Stone. And over in the comics, there is a Soul World inside the Stone where anyone killed by the Stone gets trapped. So an alternate reality existing within the MCU Soul Stone isn’t all that outlandish.

If some or most of this does turn it to be true, then the Avengers 4 title might indicate in some fashion the existence of alternate dimensions. We already know for sure that the official title is a huge spoiler. This redditor claims that Ant-Man and the Wasp will straight-up reveal the actual name of Avengers 4 via a title card like “The Wasp and The Ant-Man will return in _.”

It’s entirely possible that Ant-Man and the Wasp establishes that the Quantum Realm relates in some way to the existence of multiple timelines, literally building the narrative foundation to weave together alternate realities and time travel.

When it comes to time travel, previous set photos place several Avengers in scenes that originally occurred during the original Avengers and Age of Ultron.

This supposed plot eventually leads the heroes back to a rehash of the battle at Wakanda. “This is because the final battle will be a revisit to the third act of [Infinity War],” the post reads. Previous trailers depicted a blue streak racing across the field at Wakanda, leading some to believe that Wanda’s brother Quicksilver is saved from his death during Age of Ultron to help in the final battle.

Furthermore, it could also mean that the Hulk bursting from the Hulkbuster armor during the battle could still happen, and the same could be said of the the epic team-up shot that debuted during the first trailer.

But there are tons of other huge moments in the post, including a scene during which Steve Rogers sacrifices himself in the past fighting Thanos to give Tony Stark time to escape with the Tesseract.

If this is true, then this could also be the rumored scene during which Steve Rogers wields Thor’s old hammer Mjolnir against Thanos. Him dying would also reconcile with the official plot description saying that sacrifices “must be made.”

Many of these plot beats echo some other “leaks” by redditor “ilurkthingsreborn” back in May. But considering both of these come from unofficial sources and Avengers 4 is still squarely in the editing process, you can take these “leaks” as enthusiastic fan theories rather than anything legitimate.

We’ll know if some of these theories are true when Ant-Man and the Wasp hits theaters on July 6, and especially when Avengers 4 is released on May 3, 2019.
