'Pokemon Go' Water Festival: Catch a Shiny Kyogre, Shellder, and Cloyster

This summer, it's time for Kyogre to shine.

It’s summer timer, which means the 2018 Pokémon Go Water Festival is here. From June 7 to June 21, Water-type Pokémon will be spawning in much higher frequency. Most important of all, the legendary Kyogre is back and available for capture.

As with all Pokémon Go events, players also receive special bonuses for participating. Catching Water-type Pokémon will produce x3 Stardust, every egg will produce Double Candy and Stardust for hatching, and 2-kilometer eggs can hatch Totodile, Mudkip, and Corphish. There are also new Field Research tasks to complete. The event runs until June 21 4 p.m. Eastern, so don’t stress yourself out trying to get everything done at once.

Savvy collectors will always want to snag the legendary Kyogre. Kyogre will also spawn in a Shiny variant for this event, but it’s not the only Pokémon that’s gotten a new skin. Shiny Shellder (evolves into Shinby Cloyster) and Shiny Magikarp (evolves into Shiny Gyrados) also have a chance to spawn.

So legendary. So shiny.

Another Pokémon of interest to look for is Lapras. Niantic Labs confirmed it was one of the Pokémon that will have a higher chance to spawn, so keep your eyes out for this particularly rare Water-type.

Water Festival 2018 comes after Adventure Week 2018, which hosted increased numbers of Rock-type Pokémon appearing in the world from May 24 to June 5.

The Pokémon franchise as a whole has been quite busy with the recent release of Pokémon Quest and two more titles on the way. On January 2018, Niantic began hosting Community Days to retain interest, and judging by the game’s thriving fan culture, it’s working.

So go out and get some sun, and maybe even a shiny new Pokémon.
