Deadpool Released a Real Music Video With, Uh, Celine Dion for 'Deadpool 2'

Céline Dion’s latest haunting and tragic song has a whole lot of Deadpool in it. You read that right: Her latest single “Ashes” appears on the Deadpool 2 soundtrack, and it’s both bizarrely discordant and totally perfect that Deadpool shows up in the music video.

On Thursday, Céline Dion’s official VEVO YouTube account released the official music video for “Ashes,” her new single that appears on the Deadpool 2 soundtrack. As far as Deadpool 2’s bizarre marketing go, this perhaps takes the award for the weirdest thing Deadpool’s ever done. The song itself is genuinely good, a bonafide Céline Dion power ballad worthy of a blockbuster like Titanic. Hilariously, that’s Deadpool’s complaint when Céline Dion finishes her performance in the empty concert hall.

In the middle of the whole thing, Deadpool — or perhaps a professional dancer in a Deadpool costume — joins Céline on-stage wearing black high heels to do an elegant dance number. The dance itself has some serious Flashdance (1983) vibes. Remember that the Deadpool 2 poster released in early February? It also referenced that iconic dancing scene from Flashdance, but replaced the water with bullets:

“Céline! That was amazing!” Deadpool shouts when it’s all over. “That was the most beautiful performance I’ve ever seen in my whole life!” It’s hard to disagree with lyrics like “Can you use these tears to put out the fires in my soul? / ‘Cause I need you here, oh.”

Because Deadpool simply has to go full-on meta, he demands that Céline do it again so that the performance is less impressive, which prompts her to say, “Beat it, Spider-Man!” It’s a funny call-back to the many times that Deadpool’s red costume is mistaken for that of Spider-Man, which seemingly happened back in August when Deadpool 2 was filming in Vancouver.

Will the song actually get used in the movie? We hope so, and we’ll know for sure when Deadpool 2 gets released on May 18, 2018.
