'Avengers: Infinity War' Stars Get Burned By Thanos-Level Mean Tweets

Even with all of the Infinity Stones in his possession, Thanos can’t match the raw power of haters on Twitter. In a new Avengers: Infinity War edition of “Mean Tweets” on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the Marvel stars try to endure cruelty from people who will pay upwards of $12 to see them all in IMAX.

On Monday, late night host Jimmy Kimmel had all of the Infinity War stars — including Scarlett Johansson, Chadwick Boseman, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hiddleston, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, and oh so plenty more — read their mean tweets. Many of them were good. A few were extremely good. All of them were, of course, mean. And before anyone gets up in arms about being cruel to a celebrity, remember these actors all had starring roles in one of the biggest movies of all time. They’ll be fine.

But there is one dig that’s getting attention, and it was the one directed at Scarlett Johansson, who stars as Black Widow in the Marvel franchise. “scarlett johansson has the emotional range of a fucking celery,” reads the September 2017 tweet from user @kenobarnes, “i hate white people.”

There’s some context Jimmy Kimmel Live! left out to @kenobarnes’s tweet. Last year, Johansson was the center of controversy last year for starring in Ghost in the Shell, a Hollywood remake of a Japanese anime accused of white-washing the central protagonist. @kenobarnes was quoting a meme from another user, who in turn was responding to an article where a Hollywood casting director described Asian actors as a challenge, “because most casting directors feel as though they’re not very expressive.”

She may have the range of a celery but Johansson was pretty expressive on Kimmel.

Ouch! Anyway, all the other burns at Marvel stars like Samuel L. Jackson, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Holland, and Chris Evans were great. I never thought of Jackson as looking like a snapping turtle.

Black Panther star Boseman also has an extremely good humor about his name, “Chadwick.” It does sort of scream, “My daddy will sue you.”

Paul Bettany’s burn was short and sweet. Therefore, it’s one of the funniest.

At last, someone else acknowledges Cumberbatch’s odd face.

Finally, Elizabeth Olsen, who proves she really does have weird thumbs.

Avengers: Infinity War is in theaters now.
