'The Handmaid's Tale' Season 2 Trailer Puts Every Handmaid in Danger

The first season of The Handmaid’s Tale introduced us to the horrors of living in Gilead and ended with a pregnant Offred escaping from her assigned home. From the looks of the second season trailer, she may have gotten away from the Waterford household, but she is still in serious danger, as are all the other handmaids we met in Season 1.

On Wednesday, the full trailer for the second season of the Hulu drama was released. While the teaser showed us a more rebellious Offred, the new trailer shows more about where the existing characters stand and some of the new dangers the world holds.

Offred’s choice to leave puts her in a new kind of danger. Not only must be contend with the risks of fighting against the establishment, but her escape has put suspicion on the Waterford household. The society of Gilead may want her back as a handmaid, but Serena Joy could be out for her blood.

The peril shown in the trailer extends further than Offred to the other handmaids. Newly minted series regular Ofglen and Ofwarren are spending their days working in the mines, a reality many handmaids dreaded during the first batch of episodes. Ofwarren even says in the trailer “we come here, we work, we die.” There’s even a shot in the trailer where dozens of handmaids appear to be awaiting a hanging while Dowd talks about loving the lord or paying the ultimate price.

What we don’t how is how Offred is going to navigate all the obstacles in front of her, specifically how to balance knowing both her husband and child are out there while dealing with the baby she’s having with another man. How will she get out of this one?

The Handmaid’s Tale premiers April 25 ,2018 on Hulu.
