'Black Panther' Superpowers Explained, in Case You Weren't Sure

On Wednesday, Marvel released a “Marvel 101” video about T’Challa to explain exactly what powers this relatively new character has.

Before you head to the theaters to see T’Challa in action, you should probably get to know what he’s actually capable of — and it’s way more incredible than you might think.

On Wednesday, Marvel released a “Marvel 101” video about T’Challa to explain exactly what powers this relatively new character has. The video provides some basic information about T’Challa and the chapter of his story being told in the upcoming film — things you probably remember from Captain America: Civil War. It also explains the mystical powers that augment his incredibly high-tech suit.

Even without the Vibranium-lined Black Panther suit, T’Challa boasts incredible superpowers that include enhanced speed, agility, strength, and durability. They’re granted to him via the Panther God after he, like the many Black Panthers before him, completed a series of “death-defying trials.”

His Black Panther suit does give him even more power and durability as it is practically indestructible because of all the Vibranium woven through the fabric, but that’s just a high-tech costume. The real power of the Black Panther comes from mystical enhancement.

We can probably assume this scene from 'Black Panther' has something to do with the Panther God.

While Captain America: Civil War did include the long-awaited debut of Black Panther, it also gave us an early look at his enhanced abilities outside of the suit.

During a fight against Bucky Barnes, T’Challa was the only one who stood a chance — even without the Black Panther suit. Bucky quickly overpowered Black Widow, Sharon Carter, and even Tony Stark with a couple Iron Man gadgets.

But T’Challa is easily able to punch Bucky hard enough to send him flying.

Black Panther will show T’Challa’s might both in and outside of the suit as he struggles to defend his country against would-be usurpers. He’ll need all his wits, skills, and yes, powers, if he’s going to succeed.

It’s a good thing his genius sister Shuri developed some explosive new tech for the Black Panther suit.

Black Panther premieres February 16, 2018.
