'Rick and Morty' Season 4: New Comic Brings Back the Vindicators

We'll see a new version of the Vindicators in 'Rick and Morty' comics.

A new Rick and Morty comic has opened the door for the triumphant return of the Vindicators to the show’s fourth season, but it won’t exactly be the same team we met in Season 3. This is a show set in the infinite multiverse after all, and, you know, Rick killed almost all of them.

On Monday, Syfy offered a first look at an upcoming Rick and Morty comic due out March 7 from Oni Press. Rick and Morty Presents: The Vindicators! tells a new story about the motley group of superheroes that made their debut in Season 3.

Oni Press originally announced a series of quarterly comics focusing on Rick and Morty side characters back in December 2017. The first, released in January, detailed Krombopulos Michael’s origin story.

Written by J. Torres and illustrated by CJ Cannon, the new comic starts with the Vindicators showing up in Rick’s garage workshop for a new adventure that spans throughout time and space. Vance Maximus proclaims them an “all-new, all-different” team. While Supernova looks identical to the version that appeared on the show, everyone else sports slight alterations to their costumes or bodies.

We even get a few new team members, like Scary Terry, Pickle Rick, and Tinkles:

There's a new version of the Vindicators team coming to comics.

We don’t see him in the first few pages of the comic, but a version of Scary Terry definitely joins the Vindicators at some point in this comic:

Morty’s still pretty enthusiastic about teaming up with the Vindicators, but Rick isn’t. “Twice isn’t enough?” he asks. “Are we not over this superhero phase yet?”

Fans of the show no doubt remember that we first met the team in an episode called “Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender.” It’s called “Vindicators 3” because the Vindicators failed to invite Rick and Morty for the second team-up, mainly because Rick is such a jerk. If Rick says “twice,” then that means this story takes place after Season 3.

So it’s entirely possible that some version of the Vindicators could return for Season 4, especially considering the original Supernova is still alive out there.

Rick and Morty Presents: The Vindicators! will be released by Oni Press on March 7, and there’s no confirmed release date for Rick and Morty Season 3 yet.
