First 'Black Panther' Clip Shows Off New Suit Power

It seems the King of Wakanda has gotten a few upgrades since we last saw him fight the Avengers in Captain America: Civil War. In a new clip from Marvel’s Black Panther, T’Challa’s sister Shuri (Letitia Wright) reminds her brother of a new ability that his upgraded suit has to offer.

The clip, which debuted during Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman’s appearance on Ellen, shows a vehicle chase that ends with the cool-as-heck car flip that’s become a signature of the trailers. While T’Challa is holding onto the roof of a moving car, Shuri tells T’Challa his suit has been “charging” through absorbing kinetic energy from the bullets firing on him. The suit, which is made up the most cutting-edge technology Wakanda has to offer, can reflect that energy back, which T’Challa does in truly epic fashion.

Let’s be real: This is the best, probably most practical superpower anyone could have. Instead of the usual flying or laser vision, absorbing kinetic energy and blowing it off in a deflective blast is pretty neat. A single punch from the Hulk could be enough to turn him back into puny Bruce Banner. (Boy, Avengers: Infinity War is going to be really, really interesting.)

The second trailer for Black Panther revealed that T’Challa is getting a new suit, different from the one he first showed off in Captain America: Civil War. Aside from barely noticeable design changes — it’s a little sleeker, maybe? — the suit comes with fancy new features, like the kinetic charge. More interesting is that T’Challa’s suit is designed by his sister Shuri, who is not only a fierce warrior but a scientific genius. The Avengers are definitely going to need her help when Thanos arrives for Avengers: Infinity War in a few short months.

Marvel’s Black Panther will be released in theaters on February 16.
