In the first sneak peek of Marvel’s new superpowered teenage romance show, Cloak & Dagger, we get to see the charming meet-cute of Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, two youngsters mysteriously connected by their powers to summon light daggers and shadows. Despite some electrifying chemistry, things take a shocking turn for the worse really quickly.

On Thursday, Marvel released the 3-minute clip from Cloak & Dagger’s two-hour premiere, casually dropping the official premiere date along with it: June 7, 2018 on Freeform.
In the clip, we see Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson meet when she spills her beer on him at a party, which kicks off their superhero love story.
They have a brief exchange that’s charming and endearing before a sudden realization sends them both running through the woods — the reason why is the fun, unexpected part. When their hands inevitably come into contact, it triggers their powers in an explosive way.
Tandy Bowen (Olivia Holt) and Tyrone Johnson (Aubrey Joseph) share a mysterious connection that has something to do with emerging superpowers.
Despite being about the same age, they come from drastically different backgrounds. In both Marvel Comics and this corner of the MCU, Tandy comes from a life of privilege whereas Tyrone grew up struggling in an environment surrounded by gangs.
In the first trailer released back in April 2017, we saw more of their different lives — and pieces included in the new sneak peek.
They both seem deeply dissatisfied with their lives for different reasons, which probably explains why Tandy steals Tyrone’s wallet — she’s probably something of a bored rich girl acting out. Tandy stealing from him is actually a fun inversion of their meeting in Marvel comics, when Tyrone sees Tandy on the street and contemplates stealing her purse when some other thief grabs it instead. Instead, he helps her get it back and the two become friends, get kidnapped and experimented on, and emerge with their powers.
The origins of their powers and the nature of their connection will be drastically different in the Marvel show, but the simplified explanation is that Tandy can create daggers made of light and Tyrone can control darkness.
How closely the show follows other details from the comics remains to be seen, and we’ve got several months to wait before we learn more.
