The first teaser for Hulu’s adaptation of the Marvel’s beloved Runaways series was fittingly heavy on teen melodrama, with only a few hints of the characters’ superpowers. The new trailer, which arrived on Thursday, is also heavy on teen melodrama, but there are much clearer looks of what superpowered action fans can expect when the show premieres in the fall.
Right off the bat, the trailer makes it clear that there are going to be some deviations from Brian K. Vaughan’s original comic. The teenaged children of the supervillain group known as the Pride didn’t really know each other outside of their parents’ occasional gatherings in the comics, but here Alex Wilder indicates that they used to be closer at one point before learning what their parents were really up to.
From there, the trailer moves pretty quickly, and we see shots of the dinosaur Old Lace (looks pretty good for TV!) Nico Minoru’s Staff of One (looks great), and Karolina Dean’s rainbow alien form (looks kinda weird, but adapting it to live action was always going to be tricky).
The series exists in the same continuity as the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe — including the shows on Hulu’s rival streaming platform Netflix — but it’s pretty unlikely that we’ll see any substantive crossover or even Easter eggs. Marvel TV doesn’t roll that way.
Runaways hits Hulu on November 21.
