DC Has Two Joker Movies Brewing, One With Harley Quinn

by Ryan Britt

It looks like the Joker might have a split personality. In addition to a “gritty” standalone Joker origin story movie, the clown prince of crime may also star alongside Harley Quinn in another DC movie. Margo Robbie and Jared Leto are reportedly set to reprise their Suicide Squad roles for a Joker-Harley Quinn project that is being described as a “criminal romance.”

On Wednesday, Variety reported that directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are in talks to develop the Joker-Harley Quinn movie. Variety also made it clear that this is “separate” from the other rumored origin story movie. While it seems unlikely DC would actually produce both movies, it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility. Unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it appears DC and Warner Bros. are approaching their films somewhat loosely. In addition to the dueling Joker movies in development, Matt Reeves also indicated in July that his Batman film (now just called The Batman) is also a “standalone” and not necessarily part of the other DCEU canon.

Rumors of a “Joker Vs. Harley Quinn” movie originally broke on July 21, during San Diego Comi-Con. There is no official confirmation of from DC or Warner Bros. at this time.

While there is no indication this will happen, both the Joker and Harley Quinn could presumably appear in the next big DC movie, Justice Leauge, which opens on November 17.
