Stranger Things' Goes Retro With 'Elm Street' Nancy Tribute

Netflix

In anticipation of its upcoming second season, Stranger Things has released a creepy new poster featuring Nancy Wheeler — and of course it’s a homage to an ‘80s classic: A Nightmare On Elm Street.

The original A Nightmare on Elm Street also revolves around a young woman named Nancy. The poster for the 1984 Wes Craven film features an image of Nancy looking distressed as Freddy Kreuger’s hand hovers above her. Its tagline reads, “if Nancy doesn’t wake up screaming, she won’t wake up at all.”

On the Stranger Things rendition of the poster, the Demogorgon’s hand hovers over Nancy Wheeler’s distressed face. Its tagline reads, “If Nancy doesn’t kill the Demogorgon, it’s coming for you next.”

It’s currently unknown whether Season 2 will hold plot homages to A Nightmare On Elm Street beyond this teaser poster — but knowing Stranger Things, don’t bet against it.

Here’s the poster of Nancy:

Stranger Things Season 2 will pick up a year after the events of Season 1, during Halloween. The boys — with Will included — are dressing as the Ghostbusters. Their gang will expand to include a new skater punk girl character.

Stranger Things Season 2 will be released October 27, 2017 on Netflix.
