'Infinity War' Will Focus on MCU A-Listers (Sorry, Bucky)

Marvel Entertainment

Do you have a favorite character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Well, it better be Iron Man or Captain America, because the upcoming crossover movie Avengers: Infinity War, though stacked with talent, will focus only the big “important” characters. So, apologies if you’re a Winter Soldier fan.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant at San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, co-director Joe Russo described Infinity War as “a culmination film ten years in the making” and that it will put predominant focus on only the biggest of Marvel heroes — but everyone else will have their moments, too.

“You know, the story really centers who you would expect it to center around,” Russo explained at Comic-Con. “This is a culmination film ten years in the making and we are pulling the main story threads from all of the different franchises into one unifying narrative. So any of the important characters are going to be in this film and they are going to have something important to do in the movie.”

Russo doesn’t explicitly name which Marvel hero gets to play the field and which has to play benchwarmer, but based on the overall prominence of each character, it’s easy to guess. You can bet Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey, Jr.), both of whom have equal prominence on that sleek Comic-Con poster, will have a more important role than Hawkeye, Black Panther, Mantis, or even ol’ Bucky Barnes, who will have to be unthawed in Wakanda. But don’t worry: Sebastian Stan has only finished four of his NINE movies in his contract.

If you squint, really really hard, you might be able to see The Defenders, lol.
