Marvel Does a Smart Thing, Announces 'Deadpool vs. Old Man Logan'

Marvel

Sometimes, an idea is so good and so obvious, that it’s a wonder it hasn’t already happened. Well, riding high off of the successes of two recent R-rated superhero movies, Deadpool and Logan, Marvel has decided to pit the pair against one another in a new comic series, Deadpool vs. Old Man Logan, from writer Declan Shalvey and artist Mike Henderson.

“James ‘Logan’ Howlett is after a newly discovered Omega-level mutant,” the synopsis teases. “But if you think he’s going to let Deadpool help him, you’re sorely mistaken. Naturally, Deadpool vows to outmatch his newly marked enemy for the entirety of their mission. Will they find common ground with each other along the way?”

If the series, which will see its first issue hit shelves in October, is anything like, uh, every other Marvel team-up ever made, then, yes, they will. Deadpool and Logan will fight, but eventually, they’ll come together to fight the real enemy, described by Henderson as some “faceless corporate jackboots.”

Henderson says the comic has a “flaming runaway train of an action script that feels like drawing a Jason Statham movie,” while Delcan called Deadpool and Logan a “classic odd-couple.”

Deadpool vs. Old Man Logan might just be the second-best team-up comic of the year, since DC’s Batman and Elmer Fudd crossover was a straight-up masterpiece.
