HBO Shows Part of ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7 Early in Spain

HBO

Fans have been hungering for the seventh and penultimate season of Game of Thrones like the Hound hungers for chicken — but some lucky Spanish fans might have beaten everyone else to the punch.

HBO set up a Season 7 sneak peek in Madrid, featuring brief scenes of rough footage from the new season. Most of it has already appeared in the Season 7 trailer, but there’s more footage from the battle between Daenerys’s Unsullied forces and Lannister forces at Casterly Rock. Although the Lannister ancestral home has been referenced in the past, it will appear on-screen for the first time in Season 7.

According to reports, Jon Snow was also shown in the far North, dressed almost like the King Beyond the Wall. Whether or not he’s learned that he has a legitimate claim to the Iron Throne thanks to his true parentage, it seems that his primary concern is the threat of the White Walkers.

There’s also a quick glimpse of an unidentified character in the Citadel, which could be Jim Broadbent’s new character, Maester Marwyn. There’s also some behind-the-scenes shots of an explosive battle outside, and Daenerys in what looks like a cave or perhaps tombs at Dragonstone.

While some of the footage was made public, nothing can compare to actually being there. Lucky Spanish fans who entered HBO’s pop-up got to meet Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) and the late, great Hodor (Kristian Nairn).
