Superman Includes Marvel in National Superhero Day Shout Out

Warner Bros., Marvel Entertainment

Henry Cavill may just be an actor, but a sentimental Instagram post will make you believe he’s really Superman. To commemorate National Superhero Day, which was established by Marvel employees in 1995, Cavill took to Instagram to shout out his Justice League co-stars as well as his rivals at Marvel, including the Avengers and the X-Men. (Strangely, he didn’t tag his TV cousins on The CW.)

Cavill posted a selfie (he’s quite fond of them) in the wee morning hours of Friday, April 28. In the photo of himself, he’s wearing a Superman shirt underneath a hoodie. Presumably taking a break from his workout, he wrote in celebration of superheroes for leaving a positive influence on the genre’s young audience.

The post reads: “Fly your colours today brothers and sisters. Its National Superhero day! I personally just want to thank all of you guys and gals for keeping us so entertained and setting such a fantastic example for superhero fans, young and old, around the world.”

Cavill proceeds to tag a number of actors from the biggest superhero movies, including the MCU and Fox’s X-Men universe. Besides his DC colleagues from both Justice League and Suicide Squad, his shout outs include: Chris Pratt (Star-Lord), Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Dave Bautista (Drax), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Nickhoulas Holt (Beast), James McAvoy (Professor X), Brie Larson (Captain Marvel), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), and way, way more.

It’s a mighty lineup, and with such a positive message, it’s no wonder Cavill is Superman. But oddly enough, there is no mention of the TV heroes of Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl, and Legends of Tomorrow. But getting everyone involved would take all day, and Superman has places to be.

Happy National Superhero Day!
