Cryptic Tweet by 'Arrow' Star Hints at Deathstroke's Return

The CW

It’s been awhile since the Arrowverse has seen Slade Wilson. But in a tweet from Arrow star Stephen Amell, the fearsome killer known as Deathstroke is confirmed to return in “Lian Yu,” the Season 5 finale of Arrow which will premiere May 24 on tTe CW.

Amell — who plays Oliver Queen, aka the Green Arrow — shared the news on Monday on Twitter to his 1.78 million followers that actor Manu Bennett will return to reprise his role as Slade Wilson, aka Deathstroke, for the fifth season finale of Arrow. Amell posted a photo of Deathstroke’s mask on a grassy field, with the caption: “Desperate times call for desperate measures. Welcome back @manubennett.”

Will Deathstroke help Oliver Queen fight his new enemy, Prometheus? That might be the case. Producer Wendy Mericle said in an interview that the Green Arrow will seek help from an unlikely person to take down Prometheus. Mericle may have been alluding to Deathstroke.

“The alliances are going to be very surprising,” Mericle said. “You’re not going to believe who Oliver is working with to defeat Prometheus. It’s going to be really emotional. It’s going to be all about Oliver’s family, but not the family we’re thinking of right now. It’s going to end in a giant explosion, but not where we think it’s going to end, and the emotional punch is going to be bigger than the actual physical part of the bombs going off.”

Bennett last appeared in a Season 3 episode, in which Slade Wilson was interrogated by Oliver and his sister Thea (Willa Holland) for intel. Since his defeat in the Season 2 finale, Slade Wilson has been confined to prison on the remote island of Lian Yu. His character has been waiting there ever since, which only left the door open for his possible return. As the show’s end to its remarkable fifth season draws near, it seems Deathstroke will help the show close the chapter.

Arrow will return from its brief hiatus on April 23, 2017.
