New 'Wonder Woman' Trailer Is Heavy on Diana's Origin Story

A young Diana Prince gazes upon the ‘God Killer’ sword, her face a mix of defiance and mischief, in the latest trailer for DC’s upcoming Wonder Woman movie. The film’s star, Gal Gadot, premiered the trailer on Saturday night at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. Rather than revealing villains or plot points, this new trailer focuses mostly on Diana’s Amazonian origins.

The trailer opens in Diana’s home, the lush island nation of Themyscira. Queen Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), Diana’s mother and the ruler of the Amazons, stands behind the young Diana and tells her that only the fiercest among the Amazons could wield the God Killer sword.

“And that is not you, Diana,” she says.

We then see an older Diana training under her aunt, General Antiope (Robin Wright), who doesn’t go easy on her.

“Never let your guard down!” Antiope shouts, swinging her sword at a cowering Diana. “You expect the battle to be fair!”

What comes next gives us a taste of Wonder Woman’s powers, as her Bracelets of Submission reveal how strong they really are under her control.

Most of the rest of the trailer isn’t really new: Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) crashes his plane in the water near Themyscira. After rescuing him, Diana accompanies him to London but not without teasing the conflict he brings to the Amazon society.

There’s a pretty good gag at the end, too, when Diana has trouble stepping through a revolving door with her sword and shield.

The film opens on June 2. Check out the trailer on Gal Gadot’s Twitter:
