'Gotham City Sirens' May Have Found Its Minxy Catwoman

Brief News

The best thing to come from Suicide Squad was definitely DC’s plan to produce Harley Quinn’s spin-off film, Gotham City Sirens. The latest of many swirling casting rumors hitting the internet is Haley Bennett (Music and Lyrics, The Magnificent Seven) is being eyed as Selina Kyle, aka Catwoman.

Though the studio hasn’t confirmed any casting other than Margot Robbie as Harley, fans are clamoring for more information about Poison Ivy, Catwoman, and the Birds of Prey, including Batgirl, Huntress, Spoiler, and Black Canary. There’s even the possibility that Katana, Dove, Cassandra Cain, Gypsy, Hawkgirl, or Power Girl could appear in the film, and that means a lot of gorgeous women will be cast in spandex-clad roles in the coming months.

Megan Fox was the first actress linked to the project, though she hasn’t been confirmed as Poison Ivy. In the Gotham City Sirens comics, Catwoman has a strained relationship with both Ivy and Harley, who don’t understand her enduring romantic connection to Batman. To the other girls, Selina is being played for a fool. When Inverse requested that DC Entertainment send us the comics most relevant to Margot Robbie’s spin-off film, we received issues in which this power struggle between Catwoman and Ivy is at the center of the action. That means if Bennett (age 29) is cast as Catwoman, she’ll be playing a seductive role opposite Ben Affleck (age 44).

What evidence do we have to support Bennett’s casting? Yesterday, she posted two cryptic photos to her Instagram account, including an illustration of Catwoman, and a black-and-white photo debuting a new pixie cut. Fans were quick to point out that Selina Kyle, though she’s had long hair in prior Batman films, typically has short, dark hair in comics.

Gotham City Sirens does not have a release date yet.
