Deadpool Was Brutally Devoured by a Kaiju This Week

Marvel Comics

Every month, Spider-Man and Deadpool end up on a wild adventure in their joint Spider-Man/Deadpool series. This week, a couple of witches use Deadpool as a sacrifice to summon his true love, Spider-Man, and then the Merc with the Mouth also he got eaten by a kaiju (and lived).

It all begins on the Spider-Man/Deadpool Monsters Unleashed crossover issue. Deadpool gets lured to Toronto, Canada by a group of schoolgirl witches who decide to use the Merc with a Mouth as a blood sacrifice to summon his succubus wife so they can use her powers to revive their dead headmistress. Unfortunately for them, it turns out Deadpool’s blood summoned his other true love: Spider-Man.

However, when it rains it pours and just as Spider-Man and Deadpool are getting reacquainted, another giant kaiju that’s been popping up all around the Marvel Cinematic Universe lands in Toronto. And then it proceeds to promptly eats Deadpool.

All of this happens in the first 11 pages of the super-sized book, but the really important things to keep in mind is the fact that Deadpool’s “Heartmate,” as it’s referred to by the witches, is Spider-Man, and also a kaiju eats Deadpool.

Marvel’s Monster Unleashed is proving to be a much more entertaining event that Civil War II if only because of the fact that Marvel superheroes fighting, like, really giant monsters is incredibly entertaining.

Spider-Man/Deadpool, for its part, has proven to be a really great series for fans of both characters. The series has a little something for everyone, whether you want to see Deadpool at his most unhinged, Spider-Man at his most incredulous, or you are just an unabashed “SpideyPool” shipper. The fact that they fight a kaiju in this particular issue is just icing on the chimichanga.

Spider-Man/Deadpool Monsters Unleashed 1 is in stores now.

Spider-Man/Deadpool #1.1 is available at comic book retailers today.
