How 'Candle Cove' Turns Children Into Monsters

Syfy

The first trailer for Syfy’s upcoming horror series Channel Zero: Candle Cove is out, giving us a terrifying glimpse at the titular show within a show that brings out evil spirits and turns innocent viewers into killers.

Based on one of the most popular Creepypastas (online, user-generated horror stories) of all time, Candle Cove looks at a TV show half-remembered by a group of adults. They have vague notions of pirates and fantastical scenes, but little (if any) recollection of plot. Of course, this being a Creepypasta-inspired series, it’s not just a kiddie TV show, but a monster-making factory with some seriously scary mind-altering power.

This new trailer helps set up the basic plot and briefly introduces us to the main character: Mike Painter is a child psychologist who’s becoming increasingly consumed by his memories of this ‘80s program from his youth. It makes kids turn evil and causes spooky creatures to come out of the woodwork, or maybe just out of the TV.

How, exactly, this show captivates viewers so completely that it drives them to hurt people is still a mystery — one that Mike will presumably try to solve in the face of supernatural danger — but a show about a show that spits out spirits that drive children to murder certainly has our attention.

The first of Candle Cove’s six episodes will premiere on SyFy on October 11 at 9 p.m.
