'TMNT: Out of the Shadows' New Trailer Looks Fun as Hell

Are we crazy, or does the new trailer make 'TMNT: Out of the Shadows' look like a campy blockbuster romp?

The newest trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles dropped this morning, enhancing the parts of the film we’ve already seen. There will be bright lights, Bebop and Rock Steady look fantastic, and April will meet Casey Jones. Krang doesn’t make an appearance in this trailer, but his cameo in the previously released clip was enough to get people excited.

Because Michael Bay’s 2014 Turtle reboot was abysmal, it’s hard to get excited about a sequel helmed by the same creative team. However, the emergence of several freaky minor characters, a tricked out Turtle van and an Avengers-style alien fight suggest that this sequel is really, truly committed to spectacle.

There’s something inherently exciting about watching Casey Jones rollerblade like a street hockey player, away from a gigantic Rocksteady who’s destroying two cars at a time as he runs on all fours. It appears the turtle brothers will experience a few inner conflicts, which might inform the action. While Mickey’s excited to go public as heroes and ask humans to accept the turtles, Raph wants to “stay in the shadows”. The trailer also shows Donnie experimenting with the purple ooze used to make Bebop and Rocksteady, and Leo’s not happy about it.

The film’s casting is actually promising too, or at the very least, curious. Fred Armisen voicing Krang will be a surefire delight, and Will Arnett’s trailer cameos have actually been funny. Tyler Perry is perhaps the most successful campy comedian in contemporary film, and I’ll just come out and say it: Megan Fox is an American treasure.
