'6 Underground' release date, trailer & cast of Ryan Reynolds' Netflix romp
It looks like yet another (debatably) great American auteur has made the move to Netflix. Box office king Michael Bay of all people will be forgoing theatrical release in favor of releasing his next film via Netflix. 6 Underground looks to be a comedy-heavy action thriller set in Italy and is already the second-most-expensive movie Netflix has produced, only topped by the much-maligned Bright. With its debut coming up soon, here’s everything you need to know about 6 Underground.
The film boasts an all-star cast of actors from around the globe. Leading the charge is Ryan Reynolds of Deadpool, Green Lantern, and The Internet fame. He’ll be playing One, the leader of the underground squad the film focuses on (more on them later). He’ll be joined by Melanie Laurent, who you’re likely most familiar with for her absolutely stunning turn as Shoshanna in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. Her character is simply called Two. Three will be played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo from From Dusk Til Dawn: The Series. Four is Adria Arjona who Good Omens fans will recognize as the actress who played the Anathema Device. Corey Hawkins, who broke out as Dr. Dre in the musical biopic Straight Outta Compton, will be playing Five. Rounding out the titular 6 Underground is Ben Hardy of Bohemian Rhapsody and X-Men: Apocalypse fame as Six.
In addition to the primary crew, the film will star Dave Franco in an unspecified role and Peter Stormare, whose role is also unspecified but also almost certainly an antagonistic one given that, well, it’s Peter Stormare.
What’s6 Underground about?
We only know the absolute bare minimum of plot details as of right now, but 6 Underground seems to follow the story of a group of vigilantes who have faked their deaths and gone totally off the grid. They’re a team assembled by Ryan Reynolds’ aforementioned One and use their new anonymity to take down a series of notorious criminals.
It looks to be something of a globe-trotting epic, with filming having taken place in Los Angeles as well as all across Italy and the United Arab Emirates. Based on the first trailer, expect a whole lot of killer practical stunt driving as well as practical stunt work.
When does6 Underground come out?
6 Underground, unlike upcoming Netflix films like The Irishman and Marriage Story, will not be receiving any sort of theatrical release before debuting on the streaming service. You can look for it on December 13, and get your dose of Bayhem straight to your TV or computer screen.
It’s one thing for acclaimed auteurs to venture to Netflix for some creative freedom. It’s quite another for one of the all-time box office kings to forego a theatrical release and go straight to streaming. It’s going to be interesting to see what Michael Bay does with 6 Underground when it hits Netflix in December.
