Breath of the Wild 2' release date leaks hint it's sooner than expected

A proven leaker has dropped some juicy Nintendo details.

Link and Zelda could embark on their spooky adventure much sooner than anyone expected. Breath of the Wild 2 might be set for release in 2020, according to a rumor from a proven video game leaker.

The launch date details come from Sabi a games insider who accurately leaked a majority of the headlining press conferences at E3 2019. They even received a cease and desist from a lawyer representing Nintendo, which led them to hold back the information they had about the company’s Direct livestream event in June. But that past run-in with the games titan don’t seem to have scared them off.

On Tuesday they tweeted that Nintendo intends to release its long-awaited ‘Breath of the Wild’ sequel at in an unannounced month in 2020.

“I would tell you BotW 2 is planned to release in 2020, but Zelda release dates are historically delayed, internally or publicly LOL,” wrote Sabi. “This isn’t speculation, just current plans.”

Nintendo

This isn’t the first time we heard about a BotW 2 release date. A rumor posted on 4chan in October claimed Nintendo would release its next Legend of Zelda installment in January 2021.

That 4chan post also stated that BotW 2 would launch with an upgraded version of the Switch console, but now it seems that probably won’t happen. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa stated earlier this week that the company intends to sell the original console “for as long as possible” during a Q&A session. But that won’t mean much for BotW 2.

Nintendo has already teased the game with a spooky trailer and confirmed that it is in development. The video was clear evidence that the sequel will most likely use the same engine as its predecessor. That means Nintendo won’t have to work nearly as long to create a new game, since its foundation is already good to go.

The original Breath of the Wild took five years to develop, it’s been two years since its 2017 release. So a late 2020 or early 2021 release might be within reach.

Get ready Legend of Zelda fans, Hyrule’s triumphant comeback could be just over the horizon.

Breath of the Wild 2 is currently under development and coming to the Nintendo Switch … eventually.
