'The Boys' Season 2 Renewal, Release Date, Cast, and Which Supes Return

'The Boys' will be back for more real soon.

Amazon’s newest streaming release, The Boys, is an enticing entry into the superhero genre currently dominating film and television. Adapted from the Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comics series of the same name, The Boys follows a group of regular guys determined to keep superheroes in line when they get out of line. In the world of The Boys, “supes” reign supreme, not only saving the world but enjoying endorsement deal, big movie roles, and a nation of adoring fans all clamoring for a selfie. Over the course of Season 1, The Boys pulls back the curtain to reveal the corruption and sexual misconduct that plagues Vought, a company that controls the superhero industry, all while the Boys race to uncover a mystery that could bring down the supes once and for all.

Here’s everything we know so far about Amazon’s The Boys Season 2, including news on whether it’s been renewed, which cast members will be returning, and how you can watch Season 1 right now.

Was The Boys Renewed For Season 2?

The Boys scored an early Season 2 renewal, which executive producer Seth Rogen confirmed at San Diego Comic-Con. The renewal was announced just one week before the premiere of Season 1 on July 26.

When Will The Boys Season 2 Be Released?

No return date has been set for The Boys. However, Rogen did reveal that filming has already begun on Season 2, adding that the cast and showrunner actually flew to Comic-Con directly from their Toronto set specifically for the panel.

Considering that The Boys Season 1 launched in late July, we wouldn’t be surprised if Season 2 retained that status as a summer release. However, at this rate, it’s possible the series could return even sooner considering that filming has already begun.

How Many Episodes Will The Boys Season 2 Have?

An episode order wasn’t announced when The Boys was renewed for Season 2, but fans can probably expect the same episode count as Season 1 (eight). There’s always the outside chance Amazon could order a few more episodes depending on the success of Season 1, but for now, the safest bet is to expect eight new episodes total for Season 2.

Which The Boys Cast Members Will Return For Season 2?

Spoilers ahead for The Boys Season 1!

Given how Season 1 ended, a majority of the cast of The Boys will return. Two characters who will definitely not return are Translucent (Alex Hassell) and Madelyn Stillwell (Elizabeth Shue) given the fact they both bite it over the course of the first eight episodes.

Definite returns include Karl Urban (Billy Butcher), Jack Quaid (Hughie), Tomer Capon (Frenchie), Karen Fukuhara (The Female), Laz Alonzo (Mother’s Milk), Jesse T. Usher (A-Train), Erin Moriarty (Starlight), Anthony Starr (Homelander), Dominique McElligott (Queen Maeve), and Chace Crawford (The Deep). There’s always the possibility of supporting characters like Colby Minifie’s Ashley, who runs PR for Vought and The Seven, or Simon Pegg as Hughie’s dad. Then again, with no confirmed plot announced, it’s unclear what the scope of Season 2 will be and who will return.

Are Any New Characters Coming to The Boys Season 2?

At that same San Diego Comic-Con panel, we also learned that You’re the Worst alum Aya Cash would join as Stormfront. In the Ennis/Robertson comics, Stormfront is a male villain who is part of the supervillain group known as Payback, which operates in direct opposition to The Seven. Stormfront is also styled in the same vein as Marvel’s Thor or DC Comics’ Shazam. Just as his villain name implies, Stormfront was a member of the Hitler Youth, raised with white supremacist ideologies which are fundamental to his worldview.

It has yet to be confirmed if the rest of Stormfront’s Payback comrades will join him her in Season 2 but they would be an interesting addition to the show. The fact that The Boys Season 1 introduced the concept of supervillains in general to this world seems to suggest that there could be even more scattered around the planet. So we wouldn’t be surprised if they decided to team up.
