'Pokémon Sword and Shield' Starter Evolutions Allegedly Leak Out Early

Also, an "evil" new legendary Pokémon.

Nintendo revealed a bunch of new information about Pokémon Sword and Shield in a 15-minute video released on Wednesday, but we still don’t have one of the most important details about the upcoming Pokémon games: What are the starter evolutions? However, thanks to an earlier leak that accurately predicted some other key details, we may already know a lot about the final evolutions for our new Pokémon Sword and Shield starters: Scorbunny, Sobble, and Grookey.

The leaks, which were shared on the infamous online message board 4chan in late May, claim to reveal a ton about Sword and Shield. Normally, we’d trust 4chan about as far as we can throw a Snorlax, but some of these details have already been confirmed by Nintendo in yesterday’s Pokémon announcement (including your rival’s name, the new Dynamax feature, and the Wild Area). So it’s worth taking a closer look at these other leaks.

First, here’s a full breakdown of the 4chan leak, courtesy of GameRant:

Team Rocket-style group is called Team Yell
Eternatus is the name of an “evil” legendary
Gigantamaxing makes Pokemon giant and changes their look – example: Pikachu looks like old-school fat Pikachu
Farfetch’d is getting an evolution called Sirfetch’d
Skwovet and Greedunt are two new chipmunk Pokemon that hide in trees
Fourth gym is a fairy-type gym
Players have to complete challenges before fighting gym leaders
Camp to play with Pokemon and raise friendship level
Scorbunny’s evolution is called Raboot and will learn fighting-type moves
Sobble evolves to Sizzile and then to Intelleon, which is a spy-themed water-type
Grookey’s final form is a giant gorilla that attacks with a wood drum

The most important details here are the starter evolutions, which all sounds pretty great. Pokémon Sword and Shield’s fire-type starter, Scorbunny will apparently evolve into Raboot (get it? like rabbit) while also picking up some fighting attacks. Meanwhile, the water-type Sobble allegedly evolves into Sizzile and then Intelleon, but we’re not sure what “spy-theme” means. Finally, grass-type starter Grookey will take the final form of a giant gorilla with a wooden drum, though the leak doesn’t say what this evolved Pokémon will be called.

Additionally, it looks like we’ll get at least one more legendary Pokémon along with the Sword and Shield mascots, Zacian and Zamazenta. An evil legendary also makes a lot of sense, considering the new trailer showed these two dog-type legendaries preparing to fight some unseen foe. Eternatus also sounds like a badass new enemy.

However, we’d be remiss if we didn’t also mention what could be the single most important detail in this Pokémon Sword and Shield leak from 4chan: “Farfetch’d is getting an evolution called Sirfetch’d.

We have no idea what this means, but as long as Sirfetch’d is still a bird carrying the vegetables needed to cook it into a delicious meal, we’re onboard.

Pokémon Sword and Shield launches November 15 for Nintendo Switch.
