'Avengers 4: Endgame' Spoilers: Trailer May Reveal Which Stone Beats Thanos

Hawkeye was MIA during Avengers: Infinity War, but his location in the latest Avengers: Endgame trailer may clue us into exactly which Infinity Stone is the key to beating Thanos. An interesting new theory suggests that Clint Barton may have been recruited to find and retrieve the Reality Stone — and the Super Bowl trailer may have already spilled that important spoiler.

Redditor u/ak2sup theorizes that Hawkeye is staring at the Reality Stone when we see him in the Endgame trailer and that he’s standing in the same location the aether was originally found by Jane Foster in Thor: The Dark World. The evidence? Hawkeye is staring deeply, as if transfixed, into a bright red light that could be the stone. His hand is stretched out as of he’s reaching for something, and the backdrop also looks like a cave, similar to the location where the item was originally found.

For comparison, here’s Foster finding the stone back in Thor 2:

It might seem like a stretch, but this theory lines up well with earlier speculation that the Avengers will use time travel in Endgame to collect the Infinity Stones before Thanos ever gets them. Clint could play a key role in that plan.

“Hawkeye time travelled through Quantum Realm and he is tasked with collecting reality stone,” they write.

The theory is highly possible. Ant-Man and the Wasp introduced the possibility of time travel via the Quantum Realm. We know that time works differently on a sub-molecular level in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. So with Ant-Man’s help, Hawkeye could find the Reality Stone before Jane Foster or Thanos ever did.

This theory is furthered by another one from redditor u/ActuallyMeDeadpool, who points out that the red of the Reality Stone is noticeably present in the Avengers: Endgame Super Bowl trailer. The teaser opens by quickly showing the Infinity War character who turned to dust, stylizing each image in black and white with bright red highlights.

And if the Avengers do get their hands on the Reality Stone, the other stones may be less important. As one previous theory explained, the Reality Stone could potentially be used to trick Thanos into thinking he succeeded at the end of Infinity War, giving our heroes the time they need to defeat the Mad Titan once and for all.

Avengers: Endgame hits theaters April 26, 2019.
