'Hellboy' Trailer Release Date: Epic New Poster Reveals It's Coming Soon

Even demons have their own demons, according to a new poster for Hellboy in which the titular red anti-hero sports fully-grown horns and a crown of flames. But perhaps the best new piece of information is confirmation that we’re finally getting an official Hellboy trailer this Thursday, December 20.

On Monday, IGN exclusively debuted the new Hellboy poster while also announcing the trailer’s Thursday release. In the poster, Hellboy’s horns are at peak length, and the flaming crown indicates he’s in his full Anung Un Rama form.

That’s Hellboy’s real name. He’s supposed to be the harbinger of the apocalypse and to use his Right Hand of Doom to unlock a prison that’ll unleash monsters upon the world. But he spends most of his time denying his true nature and sawing his horns down to stubs.

This at least makes it seem like Hellboy will have to deal with the transformation in some capacity in the new movie. Maybe we’ll learn more in Thursday’s trailer?

Those horns are huge!

Summit Entertainment showed a teaser trailer at New York Comic Con in early October, and other than an image released by Empire in November, this’ll be our best official look at the new version of the character.

The official synopsis for the film says, “Based on the graphic novels by Mike Mignola, Hellboy, caught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge.” Its director, Neil Marshall, has confirmed that the film will be faithful to the source comic books. As such, that “ancient sorceress bent on revenge” is probably Nimue.

But we might finally know for sure when the trailer drops on Thursday. For now, all we can do is speculate.

Hellboy is due out in theaters on April 12, 2019.
