The New Macklemore Song Is Good

It's about fatherhood, y'all.

Though Macklemore is frequently chastised for his cheesiness, he has a good feel for subject matter. His new song, “Growing Up (Sloane’s Song),” is a great example of this. Sung to his daughter, it floats above the controversy that Macklemore sometimes courts, opting for something heartwarming and real. It’s an open letter about how he wants his baby to grow up, and it’s fucking affecting.

Sonically, it rides the “See You Again”-wave — thanks to a Ed Sheeran hook that ends up being way stronger than the Charlie Puth one, FWIW — which is not a bad idea.

I know some of you wish he would Mackle Less. To those folks, I offer you “Sloane’s Song.”
