'The Walking Dead' Season 9 Spoilers: Episode 6 Adds a New Type of Zombie
Rick may be gone, but he’s not forgotten on The Walking Dead Season 9. Six years have passed since he blew up the bridge and was secretly whisked away by helicopter, leaving his family and friends to assume he had died. While humans have thrived in some ways during this time, there have been problems too, as hinted in Season 9 episode 6, “Who Are You Now?”
In the show’s first post-Rick episode, we meet some new characters and a mysterious new group of walkers who might not be zombies after all…
Spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 9 Episode 6 below.
Episode 6 begins as Rosita, Aaron, Eugene, and Laura find Judith and the new group. Judith wanted to bring them back with her. After a brief dispute with Rosita, Judita eventually wins and they all head back to Alexandria.
The next day, the new group stands before the council for a vote. Gabriel now leads the questioning, which is similar to Rick’s: Who’s their leader? Did they know each other before? Who were they before? Who are they now? What did they do to survive?
But before anyone can vote, Michonne chimes in.
“As a community, we want to be kind,” she says. “We want to be generous. We want to be charitable, but as we know, decisions like the one we’re about to make can come with a heavy price.”
She reveals that one of the group, Magna, had a prison tattoo on her hand and a knife in her belt, even after the newcomers had supposedly turned over all their weapons.
“I remember, and I know that you do, too,” Michonne said to Alexandria before walking out.
The hints that something happened to the survivors in Alexandria (which would explain why Magna’s group were the first new faces in the community in a long time) kept coming.
Though Rick and Carl were both gone, Michonne still spoke to them. She began before hearing Judith outside in the hall.
Later in the episode, we saw that Michonne had a large “X” scar on the left side of her lower back. What exactly did she “go through”?
“We will learn that story at some point,” showrunner Angela Kang told Entertainment Weekly. “It’s something that has happened during that time jump. “
And more human threats are coming their way. While out trying to extend Alexandria’s radio signal, Rosita and Eugene crossed paths with a herd of walkers — or did they? As they buried themselves in mud to hide, the “walkers” passed by above them on the road, and we heard them speak. “Where are they?” One asked. “Don’t let them get away,” another said.
Those were the Whisperers, humans who walk around disguised as walkers.
With a new threat imminent, it might be a good thing that Michonne changed her mind about not letting Magna’s group stay and instead told them she’d escort them to the Hilltop. They’ll need all the allies they can get.
The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 p.m. on AMC.
