‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters’ Trailer Has a Kaiju-Sized Mistake

Godzilla has never done battle with another famous kaiju, Gamera, but he does apparently have a similar-sounding foe: Camera. The ominous first teaser trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters contains a shot where the camera is clearly visible behind star Millie Bobby Brown. Whoops.

The teaser, which came out on Wednesday, features the Stranger Things breakout star in some sort of bunker as she attempts to make contact with Monarch, the kaiju-monitoring organization from Godzilla (2014) and Kong: Skull Island. She can’t seem to get through, though she does manage to listen-in on what sounds like soldiers fighting (and losing) a battle against a giant monster who sounds a whole lot like King Ghidorah.

It’s a pretty good teaser trailer — it doesn’t give too much away while still managing to give a good sense of the movie’s tone — but as Redditor OrangeFilmer noted, there’s a shot where you can see the camera lurking behind Brown.

The camera.

It’s not an egregious mistake, though it is a sloppy one, and one the studio appears to have noticed. The official upload of the teaser has disappeared from Legendary Pictures’ YouTube page. However, this being the internet, there are still tons of ways to watch the teaser, either to spot the camera yourself or to get a taste of that upcoming kaiju action.

The teaser trailer came out ahead of San Diego Comic Con, so there will be more, presumably camera-free Godzilla content coming out in the next couple days. Maybe we’ll get another look at the thicc icon himself, or perhaps our first glance at Mothra, Rodan, or King Ghidorah?
