'Pokemon GO' Safari Zone: Start Time, Locations, Rewards, and More

Summer time means more shiny Pokémon.

Nintendo, Niantic

There’s another big event on the horizon for Pokémon GO, and this time, it’s in Dortmund, Germany. Niantic has partnered with the German city for its latest Safari Zone, a special location-based event unrelated to the game’s monthly Community Day.

Safari Zone is taking place in Westfalenpark, a large park with sculptures, playgrounds, and trails. The event will run from June 30 to July 1, but you don’t have to be in Germany to experience the perks. The grass\poison Pokémon Roselia will be spawning at a much higher rate all over the world. As expected, this also means players will have a chance at getting a Shiny Roselia.

If you happen to be in Westfalenpark, Niantic plans on establishing mixed team lounges where you can hobnob with other members of Instinct, Mystic, or Valor. There’s no details yet on where these lounges will be and what sort of amenities will be provided.

Safari Zone is the first part of Pokemon GO Summer Tour 2018. After a Community Day on July 8, the next part of the Summer Tour is Pokémon GO Fest* 2018 in Chicago on July 14 and 15.

Unfortunately, the Chicago event is already sold out, but like Safari Zone, you can reap the benefits no matter where you are. All players can expect to see much higher spawns of Trapinch, Feebas, and more. If you’re working on Field Research, you’ll also encounter Plusle and Minun in larger numbrers. The event will also introduce the Alolan varieties of Geodude and Diglett.

The Summer Tour will conclude with a final Safari Zone in Yokosuka, Japan. No dates and details have been released at this time.

That’s the jist of it. Bring one of those fancy new Pokéball controllers with you if you’d like, but what you should really bring is a hat and some sunblock. Melanoma is no joke.
