So far the primary villain of Ant-Man and the Wasp looks like it’ll be Ghost, a villain with connections to the Quantum Realm that can phase through matter. But newly revealed details indicate that a secondary villain from Marvel comics might make their way into the movie: Elihas Starr, aka Egghead.
On Wednesday, the Disney fan Tumblr account called Stitch Kingdom revealed via its Twitter account what’s supposedly the full cast list for Ant-Man and the Wasp. The list also credits Michael Cerveris as Elihas Starr, a villain from the comics who usually goes by Egghead, on account of his super-bald, egg-shaped head.
Elihas Starr already plays Professor Pyg on Gotham, another role that requires a perfectly bald head. So he has the look needed to play this type of character. All you really need to know about him is that in the comics he’s an evil technological genius that’s a villain to Hank Pym’s original Ant-Man, and he also has connections to Cross Technological Enterprises (called simply Cross Technologies in the MCU).
In the Ant-Man and the Wasp cast list, Elihas Starr comes right before a Catherine Starr. Considering actor Michael Cerveris is 57 years old and actress Riann Steele is about half that age, we can probably assume she’s his daughter. Unless this is another classic case of an older man married to a much younger woman
But is it also possible that Egghead is a villain from the past?
On the cast list, both Starrs come just before younger versions for Hank, Janet, Hope, and even Dr. Bill Foster. This could that mean that Egghead was an enemy of the original Ant-Man, Wasp, and Black Goliath years ago. And there’s also a “Young Ava” listed, so we’re going to get a flashback that also features Ghost long before she became a villain.
Maybe we’ll find out exactly how and why she has such connections to the Quantum Realm? And who knows, maybe Elihas and Catherine Starr are actually Ava’s parents? Plenty of fan theories out there about Ghost assume her role will mirror that of Hank and Hope’s father-daughter relationship. What if Egghead and Ghost are Hank and Hope’s villainous foil?
Also keep in mind that actor Walton Goggins plays Sonny Burch, another minor antagonist in the film who is the chairman of Cross Technologies in Marvel Comics. Fans no doubt remember Corey Stoll as Darren Cross, aka Yellowjacket, in the first Ant-Man.
Members of Cross Technologies are still interested in Pym’s technology in Ant-Man and the Wasp, so it’s entirely possible that Sonny Burch and Egghead are working together in the present day to hunt Pym down and steal his technology.
No matter which time or place he’s from, Egghead will definitely factor into Ant-Man and the Wasp in some fashion when it hits theaters on July 6.
