'Black Panther' Moviegoers Try to Get 2-for-1 Tickets with Clever Disguise
The gag has since gone viral.
Two major Black Panther fans stood out this weekend. Or should we say, one?
A duo of young men attempted to get a “two for one” pass while entering a movie theater on opening night. They did this by implementing the classic sly prank involving one kid sitting on another’s shoulder inside a long trench coat.
Twitter user Pillsbury shared a video Friday with a hilariously sarcastic caption: “We tried getting the two for one special at black panther. The manager was not having it.”
When someone replied asking if the partners-in-crime were able to get in on the half-off deal, Pillsbury, aka @stevelikescups,, came back with “Nah, I don’t know how but he knew something was up.”
So far the video has gone viral, gaining over 179,000 retweets and about 442,000 likes.
Later on, the young man also uploaded a photo of the gag “from another angle” to show just how intricate the trenchcoat operation was.
While the practical joke got the attention of the internet for its clever use of a cartoon trope, fans were quick to point out what it reminded them of.
One user noted the two boys’ resemblance to TV character Inspector Gadget,, while others went as far as comparing the coat to a recent Tom Brady Super Bowl meme.
The prank may be hilarious, but Black Panther’s strong weekend is no joke. The Marvel comic film broke a new box office record in its opening weekend, surpassing Star Wars: The Last Jedi as the second-highest long weekend gross of all time.
So far, the movie has grossed $242 million at 4,020 North American theaters. It also took in $184.6 million internationally, coming in at $426.6 million worldwide.
