Cable Meets His Maker in New 'Deadpool 2' Photo

20th Century Fox

When Josh Brolin’s Cable travels back in time and meets the Merc With a Mouth in Deadpool 2, it’s almost certainly going to give the gruff mutant a huge headache, because, well, Deadpool. Luckily, Cable had a much more amiable run-in on the set of the upcoming movie. Rob Liefeld, the comic book artist and writer who created both Deadpool and Cable, dropped by and was thrilled to see another one of his creations come to life.

Liefeld posted a picture of the meeting on Instagram on Monday night, and both the writer and Brolin have big ol’ grins on their faces. Brolin doesn’t appear to be in full costume, although to be fair, his cybernetic eye and arm would be on his left side, which isn’t facing the camera in the picture.

Cable first appeared as a baby in a 1986 issue of Uncanny X-Men from writer Chris Claremont, but his more-famous adult persona was created by Liefeld and writer Louise Simonson in 1990’s The New Mutants #87. Liefeld’s lengthy Instagram caption reveals that he has high, high hopes for the cinematic version of Cable. (Though, to be fair, the dude’s easily excited. Liefeld predicted that Justice League would make a billion dollars).

CABLE!! Say what?? I’m going to actually meet him in the flesh and blood(and steel coils)?? And, oh, by the way, he’s one of your favorite and one of the most talented actors of all space and time! Yeah, I dare you to try and meet one of your own creations and not get umpteen butterflies in your stomach. I don’t remember anything that was said here besides me thinking “I’m meeting CABLE!! HOW AWESOME IS THIS?!?!” Mr. Josh Brolin could not be more perfect in this role. He is amazing and outstanding and you will no doubt be as giddy as I was when watching him portray Cable. His commitment to becoming Cable goes beyond his physical transformation, he found the voice that fans will go crazy about! Ryan as Deadpool and Josh as Cable. Look out World this is going to be nuts!
