Marvel Crosses Over With ‘Star Wars’ in ‘Guardians’ Gag Reel

Marvel Entertainment, Lucasfilm

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has finally collided with a galaxy far, far away, and it was entirely by accident. In the hilarious blooper reel for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Kurt Russell, who stars in the film as Ego the Living Planet, accidentally calls Chris Pratt’s Star-Lord “Star Wars,” which inspires the sound of lightsabers over separate B-roll.

Today, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 became available on digital, allowing fans access to special features that will also be available on the physical Blu-ray release later this month. And in the blooper reel, Russell stumbles over his lines; in trying to say his official line, “Well, even where I reside out past the edge of what’s known, we’ve heard tell about the man they call Star-Lord,” Russell ends up saying, “we’ve heard tell about the man they call Star Wars.” Cue laughter. “We could be in trouble,” Russell adds.

The laughs don’t stop there. Russell continues to call Star-Lord “Star Wars,” to the dismay of himself and the cast (although everyone seems amused by the error). At one point, Russell is fed up and piles on the new wrinkle in the continuity: “Yes, Star Wars, he’s all of Star Wars. We’ve heard of the movie Star Wars.”

"We've heard tell of the man they call Star Wars." Oops.

As a bonus, the blooper reel cuts in B-roll of a rehearsal for a separate scene — likely Yondu’s rebellion against his own Ravager ship, evidenced by the glowing light representing his whistle arrow — with lightsaber sound effects. You can also hear the line “I have the power!” (from He-Man and the Masters of the Universe), just to pile on the ‘80s references.

That's one tiny lightsaber.
