Dazzler Will Appear in 'X-Men: Dark Phoenix'

Marvel Comics

The X-Men film series has been pretty good, but you know what it needs? More disco. Luckily, the mutant Dazzler will appear in the next movie in the franchise, X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

Dazzler, aka Alison Blaire, is a mutant often found in Marvel’s various X-Men comics. She has the ability to convert sound vibrations into beams of light and energy, and can, essentially, control light. Her long career as a singer and entertainer is well-documented.

As reported by Entertainment Weekly on Friday, “Dazzler will pop up but only in a small role.” She will be on-screen, which wasn’t the case in X-Men: Apocalypse. In that film, Scott Summers (Tye Sheridan) and Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) came across a Dazzler album while rifling through records at the mall, but the scene was ultimately cut from the final version of Apocalypse.

Turner posted a photo of the moment to Instagram in April 2016, saying, “#FlashbackFriday to that time Cyclops and I went shopping at the mall and found our favorite singer’s album (pre 1989, of course).”

Turner’s mention of “1989” is a reference to pop artist Taylor Swift’s album 1989, and many jumped on the idea that Swift would be tapped to play Dazzler in future projects. But, as EW reports, there are currently no plans to bring Swift on for the role.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is expected to premiere in theaters on November 2, 2018.
