David Drops Spoiler Bombs in New 'Alien: Covenant' TV Spot

A new Vietnamese TV spot for the upcoming Alien: Covenant contains most people’s first glimpse at a terrifying, game-changing scene that we’ve only heard descriptions of so far.

In the 30-second spot, which is packed with a couple seconds of tantalizing new footage, we see the android David, played by Michael Fassbender here and in Prometheus, overlooking a city far below him. He’s standing on the edge of a ship, looking down as dozens and dozens of bombs start to fall.

Fox premiered the full version of this scene to a lucky audience at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, back in March. They showed it again CinemaCon a few weeks later.

Spoilers ahead if you don’t want to know more.

In the full scene, we see spaceship shaped like an upside-down “U” that’s being piloted by David loom over an alien planet inhabited by humanlike beings. David drops hundreds of sinister black canisters we first saw in Prometheus onto the planet’s surface. They spew out black, liquid death, which decimates the fleeing populace, eventually exterminating them. We later learn that this planet it the very world that the crew of the Covenant will eventually land on.

We don’t see much of that in the clip — just the initial dropping of the canisters — but it’s certainly ominous, especially knowing what we know.

Alien: Covenant opens on May 19, 2017. However, anyone in Vietnam who saw this TV spot will see it before then, as the film’s international release date is a week earlier on May 12.
