Kathleen Kennedy Says Han Solo's Real Name Is Han Solo

Charming smuggler Han Solo will not be revealed to have a secret different name in the Star Wars standalone movie in 2018. According to the woman in charge of all of Star Wars, his name is Han Solo and that’s final.

In a video published by MTV News on Monday, Lucasfilm exec Kathleen Kennedy spoke about the 2018 Han Solo film and clarified Bob Iger’s comments from April 6 in which the Disney boss implied that Han Solo had a secret “real” name before he was called Han Solo.

“I’m not sure that that’s entirely what Bob meant,” Kennedy said. “There’s more to Han Solo’s name, but it’s not that it’s not his name. It’s obviously his name. It will always be his name.”

For fans who fear an infinite amount of retcon involving their favorite roguish nerf herder, this comes as something of a relief. Everyone remembers what happened last time aspects of Han’s personality were retconned in the Star Wars Special Edition in 1997.

The Han Solo movie will be the tenth Star Wars film overall, and the second standalone film in the franchise, following the success of Rogue One. At this writing, it is still thought to be released by Lucasfilm in May of 2019. In the same MTV interview, Kennedy also suggested the subject of the 2020 standalone film, will be announced soon. “My hope would be sometime around the summer,” she said.

The next Star Wars film is Episode VIII: The Last Jedi, which hits theaters — sans Han Solo — on December 15.
