Amanda Waller is a "Mean Lady" in Final 'Suicide Squad' Trailer

'Suicide Squads" final trailer reveals the film's tone and intentions once and for all.

Suicide Squad started out with a Bohemian Rhapsody-filled bang, then moved into oddly serious territory once it became clear the future of DC’s Cinematic universe rests on its unlikely shoulders. Now the final trailer is here, which telegraphs the last word on its intended tone.

Curiously, the trailer tones down Harley Quinn and The Joker and instead emphasizes Viola Davis’s Amanda Waller and Joel Kinnaman’s Rick Flagg. This is an intriguing move, because while Davis and Kinnamon are not the most famous actors (that would be Will Smith, Jared Leto, or supermodel Cara Delevingne) or the shiniest characters (that would be Harley Quinn), they are the most good-old-fashioned skilled actors playing the most quietly interesting characters. Neither Waller nor Flagg have the iconic stature of the Joker, but they will supply the engine of the film’s plot. Focusing on them tells us this movie will not be all shine and no substance.

Looks like Suicide Squad already stands a good chance of having less empty flash than Batman v Superman. The Worst Heroes Ever could be exactly the heroes this summer movie season needs.

The film comes out on August 5.
