Mutants Go to War in New 'X-Men: Apocalypse' Trailer

And they're going to look good, too.

The new trailer for Bryan Singer’s presumably final X-Men movie, X-Men: Apocalypse, is here. And, boy, does it up the comic book factor. We’re talking like Comic Book Guy dreaming about Stan Lee levels, here.

Releasing on Memorial Day weekend, X-Men: Apocalypse features the all-powerful, ancient Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) gathering his “Four Horseman” — Magneto (Michael Fassbender), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), and Angel (Ben Hardy) — to cleanse the world. And, of course, it’s up to Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) to finally assemble his X-Men and stop it all from happening.

Remember the first X-Men, from 2000, which had all the mutants dressed in black fetish leather? And Cyclops joked about Wolverine’s yellow spandex as if that was supposed to be corny? Fifteen years later, Bryan Singer is rejecting the franchise’s anti-kitsch policy. Everyone looks comic book-y, but Psylocke, Nightcrawler, Angel, and Apocalypse especially look like they leapt out of the page. (Although Isaac isn’t buff like comic Apocalypse, who’s built like he can bench press a tyrannosaurus.)

Although the X-Men costumes are still pretty militarized, there’s definitely more color. It’s nice when a comic book movie embraces, you know, comic books.

Finally, an 'X-Men' movie that looks like a comic book!

The new trailer is more or less the same as the last one, but this version does have more action and new scenes — like the necessary “This is all of us” group shot even though Jennifer Lawrence is kind of in the way. Either this was poor blocking by Singer or someone owed J-Law a huge favor.

"Hey uh, Ms. Lawrence? You're kind of in the... never mind. Keep rolling."

X-Men: Apocalypse debuts on Memorial Day weekend, May 27.
